New York City- The Omni Berkshire Review

Omni Berkshire New York City Review

If you have read any of my blog posts, this might seem like a recurring theme. Anyway, we decided to go to New York City to surprise my 10 year old for her birthday!  I had felt like my baby’s 10 year old milestone had literally snuck up on me and slapped me in the face while saying something like this, “Hey lady your baby is no longer a baby and you only have so much time left with her so you better make it count!”

She had always been fascinated with New York and said this was the #1 place she wanted to visit. Thus, I sneakily booked our plane tickets and started to make plans for a surprise trip to New York City!

I sucessfully kept the New York City plan a surprise until the morning we left. I woke up Evelyn & Claire who thought it was going to be just another day at school with a poster in hand at their bedside. Needless to say, she was thrilled!

Surprise! You are going to NYC!

While planning this trip, I searched tirelessly for a family-friendly hotel that was luxurious and spacious without entirely breaking the bank. It did not help that we were going the same weekend as Fashion Week and the US Open (which we were also attending). I stumbled upon the Omni Berkshire. The reviews on tripadvisor seem consistenly good and they had spacious Madison Suites that would allow for us to keep the children in a room separate than us. The location was also perfect. It was located in midtown and within a block or two of 5th avenue. It was largely a business area but isn’t all of Manhattan?! Ha! The hotel was surprisingly family friendly. They gave our kids a neat little back-pack with some playing cards and other stuff upon check-in. Also, the hotel had a great surprise for Evelyn in the room upon check-in. I thought this was very kind and thoughtful. I requested a surprise but I expected to pay for it. They had a yummy red-velvet cake and balloons free of charge waiting in the room.

While waiting for our suite, we had a late lunch at the adjacent restaurant. It was expensive and really not that great. I ordered a light and healthy option on the menu and they mistakenly brought me cheeseburger dumplings. I decided to not complain and give it a shot. I am a self-proclaimed foodie and like to try new things but this was just weird. We gave the restaurant a shot at breakfast the next morning and were again disappointed. Thus, we ventured outside the hotel for our dining. No big deal as there are plenty of places to eat in NYC !

The suite on the otherhand did not disappoint. The Madison Suite was very large and luxurious. The bed linens were very high-end as was the sleeper sofa which had a tempurpedic mattress. We also enjoyed the additional restroom in the hallway. Overall, the suite was of 5 star quality. I would also give the Omni Berkshire 5 stars for location. It was located right in the middle of Times Square and Central park, making it very easy to walk to either location. Grand Central Station and 5th avenue shopping was also within a few blocks. FAO schwartz was also close-by as you can see we enjoyed our time there!

Good times at the FAO Schwartz (very close to the Omni Berkshire)

If you choose to stay at the Omni Berkshire in New York, make sure that you sign up for their free loyalty program. This gives you free internet access throughout your stay as well as free beverages of your choice delivered to your room. Another tip is to make sure you request a refrigerator if you need one. The suite comes only with a mini-bar that was just not cold enough for storing milk. We had to ask a couple of times for the refrigerator but they did eventually deliver it on the day of arrival.

Overall, the Omni Berkshire Hotel is a great choice for families in New York City.
